All last week we had a visit from Brazil. The lovely Isabela Raposeiras (the first Brazilian Barista Champion) and Paul Germscheid (La Marzocco and Mahlkönig importer) was here to attend a four day roasting seminar and work shops with us. Our roast master, Peter Dupont, took them through the whole drill with intensive cupping sessions and lots of coffee roasting.
It was a great pleasure for us to have such enthusiastic people participating. Isabela was also most interested in learning about the Scandinacian espresso style, which took another day to cover.
We hope to see both Isabela and Paul here in Denmark again or else we will definitely meet them in Brazil next time we go to visit Daterra.
If you are interested in roasting courses and seminars please feel free to contact us.

Danish Home Barista Championship.
This weekend I had the pleasure to judge the first Danish Home Barista Championship together with the lovely Karen Dysted.
Congratulations to Rune Larsen who won the title as best home barista in Denmark. Rune used a very light roasted Beloya as espresso for all his drinks, need I say extreme aromas! All the competitors used their own espresso machines, grinders etc.
The competition was possible thanks to the hard working guys from www.espressobar.dk. Everybody was very blown away by the level of the skills from the Home baristas and not least the whole competition.
Thanks to everybody who came by and made this such a great day.
Pictures from the event can be seen here: http://nattehimlen.dk/div/kaffe/dmhb2009/

Madmanifesten
One of our customers, Madmanifesten on Amager, has been nominated for the iByen award.
If you'd like to give them your vote (and we know you would) go to iByens website and cast it! And if you look closely at the latte art picture on top of the article you can spot our logo on that cup :-)
Madmanifesten has been serving and selling our coffees since they opened in june. They do a great job and has perhaps the most stylish interior of any café in Denmark.

New Kenya · Ndaroini
With the launch of the new year we feel it's time to launch a new coffee:
Ndaroini · Kenya AA Top
Ndaroini is a wet mill situated at 1600 masl in the Nyeri district close to Karatina Town. It was built in 1984 and is part of the Gikanda farmers co-operative society. It's owned by approx. 700 coffee growers in the surrounding area. This is a late arrival but was vaccum packed in Kenya to preserve the freshness.
It's a fully washed coffee of the typical Kenyan Arabica varieties SL28 and SL34. We've roasted it very light with extra heat towards the end to highlight the aromas and the freshness.
Elegant with an intense aroma. Fresh acidity with notes of black currant, fresh figs and rose flowers.
Klaus visited the Ndaroini factory (wet mill) in 2007 on his trip to Kenya, where he met a few of the people behind this coffee. It's the office and wet mill in the background behind the raised drying beds.
The coffee is available at our roastery and coffee shops from today as well as online.
